Gypsy Music File Meetings / Ankara

Gypsy Music has a special character with its unique rhythm structure and emphasis. The 9/8 special rhythm pattern that defines the Gypsy Music combined with the dances consisting of original accents, creating a special cultural element. Within the context of the UNESCO Agreement on the Conservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Cultural Research Foundation has initiated a study on Gypsy musi and the following people were inclueded in the study; Başkent University State Conservatory Director Prof.Dr. Ertuğrul Bayraktar, Ph.D. Lütfü Erol, Director of Ege University State Conservatory Prof.Dr. M. Ocal Özbilgin, Lecturer Hüseyin Koçak and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Ethnomusicology Department Head Melih Duygulu. The work carried out by CRF Ritual Program Coordinator Doğanay Çevik was also contributed by the UNESCO SOKÜM Specialist Solmaz Karabaşa. As a result of the negotiations, the idea was to take part in the inventory in the context of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage element. We are a member of CRF İzmir UNESCO Uncontested Cultural Heritage A decision has been taken to propose a relevant element to be discussed in the Provincial Founding Commission.

At the meeting held at Başkent University, it was also decided that Başkent University Application and Research Center and CRF will initiate a study on “International Common Characteristics of Roma Cultures”.
