Mesir Macunu Festival / Western Anatolia / Manisa
Apaste was discovered as a result of experimental work to find a remedy for the sickness of Hafza Sultan, the mothers of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. This paste is made from 41 varieties of spices and plants. This mixture obtained by the Head Physician, Merkez Efendi is distributed to the people from the Sultan Mosque dome in the city center of Manisa. The most important part of the festival held in April each year is the distributing the paste which is believed to bring healing. This work includes observation and photographic documentation.
