Project Description
Ashura is a dessert with symbolic values that is widely used in certain periods throughout Turkey. Different religious, ethnic and cultural groups give different meanings to Noah’s pudding. It mostly has a knowledge of origin based on the Noah’s Flood. In general, water, wheat, chickpeas, powdered sugar, beans, rice made of brass, walnut, almond, pomegranate, sesame and cinnamon are added. In Alevism culture, it is linked to the day when Hussein was killed in the Battle of Karbala. Armenians name it as “anuş-abur” and Greeks name it as “koliva”. Field research, photographic documentation and documentary filming are done related to Ashura.
